There has been a growing opposition on the red light camera system of ticketing red light violations, some simply don’t want somebody to watch over them. But for the National Motorists Association it is simply not buying the ideas of the companies selling the technology.  According to NMA on its website (http://www.motorists.org/red-light-cameras/objections) “Believing the claims of companies that sell photo enforcement equipment or municipalities that use this equipment is like believing any commercial produced by a company that is trying to sell you something.” So is this the end of red light cameras? The battle is raging on, can our local municipalities or state legislature put red light cameras out of business?

New bill could kill red light cameras

www.kirotv.com

” “We’ve tried to put red light cameras out of business for several years, we thought maybe this would be a different approach, just to take the revenue incentive out and see what happens. I’ll bet if those fines and you lengthen those yellow lights a little bit they’ll disappear on their own.”…”

The makers of the technology claimed that with the camera in place it will make our roads safer. They claim that it will deter drivers to commit violations since drivers know that they are watched. These claims remain an open question, other groups challenged these claims, and in reality these cameras do not prevent accidents, and taking pictures does not stop dangerous drivers either. What really happen is that these cameras helped the city and state coffers swell, for example in Florida in 2012 it collected more than $100 million in traffic fines.

California: Appellate Red Light Camera Ruling Worries Redflex

Redflex Traffic Systems of Australia asked the state Supreme Court to “depublish” the California v. Rekte decision, effectively erasing it from the books.  …” http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/46/4636.asp
