Marijuana Impairs Driving

Many states are now in the process of legalizing marijuana.  The general election of November 2016 saw California as the first state to legalize not just medicinal use of marijuana, but recreational use as well.  Also known as THC or cannibus, it is a fact, while many claim its powerful medicinal benefits, marijuana use has its drawbacks.  Among these topping the list, it is a fact, marijuana impairs driving.

Recent Studies

According to www.drugabuse.gov, “Marijuana significantly impairs judgment, motor coordination, and reaction time. Moreover, studies have found a direct relationship between blood THC concentration and impaired driving ability.”

“Several meta-analyses of multiple studies found that the risk of being involved in a crash significantly increased after marijuana use. And, in a few cases, the risk doubled or more than doubled.”

Additionally, “Marijuana is the illicit drug most frequently found in the blood of drivers who have been involved in vehicle crashes, including fatal ones,” per www.drugabuse.gov.
